Interior Solution for Transformation of Former Steakhouse to New Library
The Union Township Branch Library project was a renovation / expansion of a former steakhouse being transformed into a library. ASI, Cincinnati was brought in by Library Design Associates to help them design and implement their vision for the space. This was a bid project at the construction level, but ASI worked directly with Library Design Associates. They had some ideas that were too expensive for the library, so ASI assisted them by value engineering the signage to stay within the library’s budget. A fiber optics strip was added to build interest in the kid’s section. Fiber optics was chosen, because of its ability to change colors, and its lower cost, but similar look to neon lights.
About the Solution
The design firm favored a creative signage package. A unique dot pattern was selected. The pattern was screen printed onto P95 acrylic. Infinity window signs were chosen enabling the use of print paper inserts on the end stack signs. As the library is housed in a large open space, suspended signs were used to denote the different library sections.
A great deal of effort was placed on developing a feature incorporating the designer’s vision of including a neon strip on the children’s section wall. The ultimate solution selected was a fiber optics tube installed on the wall using neon standoffs to mimic neon including the fiber optics having the ability to change color via a color wheel contained inside the base unit.
